A 16-year-old boy has been charged with assaulting an elderly woman in her Adelaide home, with the intention of raping her during a terrifying home invasion.
Police allege the boy broke into the woman's Edwardstown unit while she was sleeping just before midnight on Thursday.
She screamed when she woke to find someone lying on top of her, after which the suspect ran away.
Officers searched the area using a police dog but could not find the suspect.
Detectives from the Special Crime Investigation Section arrested a boy from Adelaide's southern suburbs on Saturday afternoon.
He has been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and assault with intent to rape.
The teen has been refused bail and will appear in the Youth Court on Monday.
Police say the woman was distressed by the attack but not injured, and family members are now caring for her.
