iPhone 7 owners fuming after prank video tricks them into drilling a hole in their phone

An online prankster has left hundreds of Apple fans fuming after convincing them to drill a hole into their brand new iPhone 7 to create a DIY headphone jack.

The YouTuber known as TechRax uploaded the video 10 days ago and has since received 10.3 million views.

Apple copped criticism over the decision to release its newest model with out the headphone jack, instead offering wireless ‘airpods’ for $159.

So when a homemade solution announced you could simply drill your own headphone jack, many people fell victim to the prank.

“I found a perfect solution to this problem guys, it’s a very simple tutorial just follow along,” TechRax, aka Taras Maksimuk, told his followers.

Tightening the handset in a metal vice, the screen starts to flicker but he promises his viewers that it’s “normal”.

“If it starts doing this guys, this is perfectly normal. This means you’re on your way to getting a brand new headphone jack.”

Using a 3.5mm drill bit, he drills a small hole next to the charging port and plugs in his headphones.

“And just like that guys you have your brand new fully built 3.5mm headphone jack!”

In the video music plays from the phone, although instead of coming through the headphones, the audio is coming out of the speakers.

Unfortunately, some iPhone owners didn’t notice that last detail and were quick to destroy their brand new devices.

“I followed all the steps you said and it won't even turn back on. Do I gotta update it or download the headphone jack app?” one distressed user commented.

“I tried this, and now there's no sound coming out my phone,” another wrote.

Some DIY-ers were angrier than others.

“TECHRAX YOU PIECE OF S**T I DID THIS AND THE SOUND DOES NOT WORK AT ALL,” a fuming viewer said.

“WTF??? F*** you! My screen turned black the moment I started drilling and now I can't even open it,” added another gullible iPhone7 owner wrote.

The iPhone7 retails for $1079 for the standard size and $1269 for the Plus version.

NOTE: Drilling a hole into your iPhone will instantly void the warranty with Apple and likely destroy your phone in the process.
