New technology will detect sharks

Redland City Council has closed several beaches on North Stradbroke Island after a fisherman saw a large bull shark in shallow water.

The three metre animal was spotted off Dunwich on Saturday, an area known for its large shark population.

In a bid to make Dunwich and other Queensland beaches safer, shark researchers from OCEARCH have begun tagging sharks with GPS technology.

Three tiger sharks were caught in as many days off Fraser Island.

Their pings can now be followed from anywhere in the world.
