Alice Evans broke down in tears on Lorraine as she revealed she thought she might do herself “harm” following the collapse of her marriage to Ioan Gruffudd.

The actor, 53, revealed earlier this year that the couple were parting ways after 13 years of marriage, sharing in a now deleted tweet: “Sad news. My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week.

"Me and our young daughters are very confused and sad. We haven't been given a reason except that he 'no longer loves me'.”

Talking to Lorraine Kelly on the ITV show on Thursday, Evans said Gruffudd told her he no longer loved her after returning from a shoot in Australia.

She said until then she had been a “smug married” and that it “came out of the blue”.

Evans said Gruffudd then told her that he may or may not leave her.

“I thought I might do myself harm,” she said of one low point.

“At one point I thought, I’m going to lose my mind… and then I tweeted ‘he’s leaving us’ and all hell broke loose.”

Discussing the reaction to her tweet, the star said: "A lot of people were shocked and there was so much talk of a dignified silence.

"And I’m going to do this [makes quotation marks with fingers], because I don’t know how you can describe a dignified silence when I’m talking about my entire life falling to pieces around me.”

Gruffudd recently shared a picture on Instagram of himself with actor Bianca Wallace posting: “Thank you for making me smile again.”

Evans told Kelly she was totally “slayed” by the post and that she was still in “shock”.

Crying, she said: “I think I was owed more than Instagram after 20 years and two children.

"It was a little bit cowardly.”

The star – who shares two daughters with Gruffudd – also said her ex will no longer communicate with her and that any contact is through lawyers.

She told Kelly she was living “every woman’s nightmare”.

Evans posted a video on Instagram straight after Lorraine aired, assuring fans that she was “fine”.

“I’m fine honestly,” she said.

“Lorraine was so nice to me and I don’t often get to open up.

“I know some of you said you were worried about me but honestly, I’m going to be fine.”

Yahoo has contacted representatives for Gruffudd for comment.
