Two experts from the international team commissioned by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to research the origins of the coronavirus have not been allowed to enter China, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Sources told the newspaper that Chinese officials prevented two people on the 15-member team from boarding the plane to Wuhan during a layover in Singapore.

In a screening before their departure, both had tested positive for the presence of coronavirus antibodies, indicating a prior infection at some point.

But swab tests conducted on the two found them currently negative for Covid-19.

The rest of the team arrived in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, officials confirmed on Thursday, after a protracted tug-of-war about the trip.

The WHO team includes an Australian.
