Teacher, 31, diagnosed with rare cancer after thinking she had 'stomach bug'

A young teacher was shocked when a routine visit to the doctor ended with a cancer diagnosis.

Victoria Flores, 31, from Texas, US, went to the doctor thinking she had a stomach bug in August.

She began having back pains and stomach aches,” a family friend wrote on a GoFundMe page to raise money for the young woman’s medical expenses.

“Several people in her family had a stomach virus, and teachers are exposed to a lot of germs.”

However, the primary school teacher was soon diagnosed with stage 4 bile duct cancer. This type of cancer is typically found in elderly men, local outlet Fox San Antonio reported.

“It was a waiting game for about four days before they found out exactly what it was,” Ms Flores told the outlet.

“It’s treatable but not curable.”

Her radiologist told her it was the largest mass he had seen, according to a GoFundMe page for the Year three teacher.

Ms Flores is not a candidate for surgery or radiation, due to the nature of her cancer.

She has undergone intense chemotherapy, which caused her to miss her son’s first birthday.

Friends and family have raised almost $30,000 through GoFundMe page to support Ms Flores’ medical expenses.
