Tasmanian police wearing body cameras

Tasmania's frontline police will wear video cameras in a bid to protect themselves and capture better evidence.

Hobart police were issued with the cameras on Monday and officers from Launceston, Devonport and Burnie to follow suit in coming months.

"The community can take comfort in the fact that the use of body-worn cameras positively contributes towards the professionalism and accountability of police officers," Police Commissioner Darren Hine said in a statement.
