Taskmaster star Nish Kumar has made himself a contender for one of the most coveted roles in the film industry: none other than James Bond.

The hunt for the next 007 has been underway ever since Daniel Craig made his final appearance as the MI6 agent in No Time to Die, with rumours swirling around about who the next Bond will be.

Several actors have been linked with the role, but Kumar threw his hat into the ring after being reminded that James Acaster had starred in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, with the comedian not wanting to be outdone by his colleague.

“It would be very cool if I was named the next James Bond, because the collective meltdown it would inspire in a section of the British press would be so profoundly hilarious that I almost think Barbara Broccoli should do it as a prank,” he quipped to The Guardian.

“They’ve made enough money from the franchise, why not make the next casting of James Bond an elaborate prank? I think it’s a longer journey obviously to imagine me as a spy than it is to Acaster as a Ghostbuster because, let’s face it, the guy is a f***ing nerd.”

Though Kumar is rather unlikely to attain the part, the latest name to be heavily linked to the role was Aaron Taylor-Johnson, though he avoided commenting on the matter in a recent interview. Despite his silence, he had support from a former Bond, with Pierce Brosnan backing the star.

“I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so,” he remarked. “I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow.”

Taskmaster airs and streams on Thursday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, where you can also stream previous series.
