Tas budget spend no sweetener: Hodgman

Tasmania's Liberal premier has dismissed suggestions that millions in budget spending for road and rail is a federal pre-election sweetener.

Canberra has allocated $461 million for a long-awaited new Bridgewater Bridge in the federal seat of Lyons that the coalition lost at the 2016 election, as well as $400 million for the Bass Highway that runs through marginal northern electorates Bass and Braddon.

Premier Will Hodgman on Wednesday said the only reason Tasmanians should be cynical is because the bridge funding was redirected under a previous state Labor government.
