Tas budget funds for child safety workers

Tasmania's child protection system will be bolstered by up to 25 extra safety officers and support staff as part of millions of dollars in extra funding in this week's state budget.

Human Services Minister Roger Jaensch on Tuesday announced an extra $24 million over four years will be spent redesigning the state's child protection system, which has for years been plagued by reports of understaffing and a lack of resources.

"This is on top of the $51.2 million in increased funding for out-of-home care and the redesign of child and safety services that we have already committed in our first term," Mr Jaensch said in a statement ahead of Thursday's state budget.
