A Sydney woman has been charged with robbing elderly people of more than $14,000 over a six-month period.

Police say personal items, including handbags and cash, were stolen from a number of elderly men and women at car parks in Riverwood between November 2017 and April 2018.

On Friday afternoon, the woman struck again, this time approaching a 78-year-old woman in a car park on Riverwood Street.

She then snatched the woman's handbag, which contained more than $2000, and fled.

The 42-year-old was arrested a short distance away for not obeying crossing instructions. After investigations, she was charged with 24 counts of theft and not stopping at stop line at red arrow.

The Riverwood woman was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
