A Sydney teen will face court charged with grooming a child and possessing child abuse material.

South Australia Police began investigating in November after a tip-off about an online user allegedly grooming a young girl via Skype.

Investigators from the South Australia Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team linked a 19-year-old Maroubra man to the user details associated with the account.

In April AFP child protection operations officers searched the man's home, seizing two mobile phones.

He has been charged with using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 and possession of child abuse material.

If convicted he faces up to 15 years' imprisonment.

He was granted bail to appear in Sydney Downing Centre on Monday.
