Sydney mother denied bail in murder case

A mother charged with murdering her two-year-old daughter has been refused bail in a Sydney court.

The 22-year-old, who cannot be identified, did not apply for bail or appear in Parramatta Court on Saturday, charged over the December 19 incident.

Emergency services were called to a home on McCredie Road in Guildford West to find the toddler in cardiac arrest after allegedly being assaulted.

The girl was taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition but died the following night.

Police charged the woman with murder on Friday, one month after her boyfriend, Mohammed Khazma, had his charges upgraded to murder when he faced court.

After the incident, police said the mother and Khazma had only been together a short time.

Media reports stated the pair had known each other for several weeks before all three moved into a granny flat together.

In court on Saturday, the woman's lawyer said she might make a bail application at her next appearance on Thursday, February 16.
