Man's life-saving decision after noticing something ‘not quite normal’ on his testicle

Josh Ellice-Flint is what some people might describe as a ‘typical Aussie bloke’, he works in an office, plays rugby league on the weekends and likes to keep fit.

He also participated in Movember, growing what he described as a “very underwhelming moustache” to help raise awareness and funds for mens health issues in November.

Iconically, it was while growing the facial hair that Josh felt something “didn’t seem quite normal with one of his testicles”.

Josh quickly headed to his GP where the 30-year-old was diagnosed with the most common cancer in men aged 15-39 in Australia – testicular cancer.

Fortunately Josh caught it early and was “happy to say my CT scan was clear and it doesn’t look like anything has spread”.

Keeping in good spirits, the Sydney resident said “goodbye to one of my very underwhelming testicles,” he is now sharing his story on social media and said he is proud to be a “one nut Beta for the rest of my life”.

Movember.com.au cautions that early detection is vital as testicular cancer has a 95 per cent survival rate but one in 20 men don’t survive.

“If there’s a bump where it shouldn’t be, or an ache you feel like you’re man enough to handle - don’t ignore it,” Josh wrote on his Instagram, imploring other men to keep an eye on their downstairs unmentionables.

“This has been a very ironic Movember for me,” he said sharing a photo on Instagram of him after surgery with a huge smile and a pretty impressive moustache.

“Such an important message from such a courageous person,” a person responded.

“Great approach to it mate, all the best with your recovery,” another friend added.

After raising more that $2,600 for Movember, Josh is still smiling and will continue to share his story.

“I’m not usually one to talk about myself or my feelings, but I felt an obligation to highlight the importance of this month,” he said.
