Man's excuse after police find him in bizarre position on back seat of car

Improvising removalists trying to transport a cabinet in the back of a car probably wished they paid for a professional after they copped a combined $674 fine.

The vehicle the pair were travelling in was pulled over by police in Quakers Hill, in Sydney’s northwest, on Monday afternoon for a random breath test.

Yet officers’ attentions were quickly drawn to the backseat of the car, where a man was lying flat alongside the large item of wooden furniture.

After a quick inspection, police discovered the man was not wearing his seatbelt.

“This passenger was holding the seat belt against his hip to conceal the fact that it wasn't clipped in,” NSW Police’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command wrote on Facebook.

When pointing out the offence, the man told police: “I am sick. Sorry for that one.”

He was slapped with a $337 fine for not wearing a seatbelt properly.

The driver was also issued a fine of $337 for driving with one unrestrained passenger and handed six demerit points as double demerits were enforced over the Easter long weekend.

A Sydney motorist was also on the receiving end of a hefty fine over the Easter period when he was pulled over for an infringement involving his helmet.
