Overcooked! Video shows man's lucky escape after blowing up barbecue

An amateur backyard cook is lucky to be alive after his attempt to ramp up his barbecue backfired spectacularly.

With the grill already on, the Sydney man stokes his fire with a piece of timber as his friends watch on from a nearby balcony.

Not content with the heat coming from the grill, the man decides to throw an entire bucket of fire starters in for good measure – but as the dramatic footage shows, it was not his smartest moment.

In an instant, the cook is engulfed in flames, throwing him to the ground.
