Man charged over Sydney machete stabbing

A 50-year-old man has been charged with allegedly stabbing his neighbour with a machete during a dispute in Sydney's southwest.

The two residents of a unit complex in Leumeah allegedly began rowing in the communal area about 8.45pm on Wednesday.

Police say the 50-year-old took a machete from his unit and stabbed the other man, 37, several times in the neck and body. Witnesses intervened and the older man returned to his unit with the weapon.

The younger man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition while the older man was arrested and has since been charged with attempted murder. He'll appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday.
