A western Sydney man is accused of online grooming a 16-year-old girl from the Philippines and encouraging her to send sexually explicit images to him for payment.

NSW Police began investigating in April after a tip-off from the Australian Federal Police and on Tuesday searched a home at Whalan, seizing electronic devices and an amount of methylamphetamine (ice).

A 53-year-old man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with drug possession, possessing child abuse material and using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

He was refused bail and will appear at Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday.
