Sydney man charged after dog found tied to cement block underwater

A man has been arrested and charged with torture after a dog was found dead by swimmers in Sydney’s south.

A two-year-old Belgian Malinois was found tied to a cement block by swimmers at Yowie Bay on Saturday about 12pm.

Police divers retrieved the dog and took it to a vet.

Officers undertook a number of inquiries and on Monday about 6pm executed a search warrant at Miranda and arrested a man, 49.

Police said they also seized more than 117g of cannabis during the arrest.

The man was charged with three offences including; torture, beat and cause death of animal, commit an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal and possess prohibited drug.

The man will appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday.
