Sydney man arrested over allegedly live streaming sexual abuse of 12-year-old

A Sydney man has been arrested over the alleged live streaming of the sexual abuse of a young girl in the Philippines.

The 63-year-old was arrested in North Rocks in Sydney's west by Australian Federal Police (AFP) in September.

Police allege the man communicated with people overseas to procure children, via a trusted adult, to produce and transmit child abuse material at his request.

Officers in the Philippines, alongside the AFP, then rescued a 12-year-old girl and arrested a 39-year-old woman in Rizal, two hours from Manila, on Friday (local time).

"Sadly there is an appetite for child abuse material online, which leads to vulnerable children becoming pawns in a form of abuse that can have devastating impacts," AFP Senior Officer Federal Agent Andrew Perkins said in a statement.

"The arrest and rescue sends a strong message that, if you are taking part in this vile industry, law enforcement will find you."

The man is now facing a series of charges including procuring a child to engage in sexual activity outside of Australia and possessing child abuse material.

He's due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on November 22.

Charges are expected to be laid against the woman arrested in the Philippines in the near future.
