Sydney girls caught after 'robbery spree'

Three young girls have been charged over an alleged late-night spree of robberies and assaults in Sydney's inner-city.

The trio - two aged 14 and one aged 12 - first set upon two women in Ultimo just after midnight on Thursday and stole a mobile phone, police say.

They allegedly continued their late-night rampage by stealing a second victim's phone before bashing another woman with a metal pole nearby, stealing a backpack and leaving her with facial injuries.

A fifth woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed of her handbag at Central Railway Station, where witnesses called police.

Officers arrested the trio not long after and they were taken to Day Street Police Station.

The younger girl was charged with assault with intent to rob and appeared before a Children's Court on Thursday.

The older girls were charged with various offences including demand with menaces and robbery with assault.

One of the 14-year-olds also appeared before a Children's Court on Thursday, while the other was granted conditional bail ahead of an appearance in July.
