Sydney gamer accused of bashing pregnant girlfriend says it was a 'one-off'

A Sydney man who inadvertently live-streamed himself allegedly assaulting his pregnant partner during a game of Fortnite has dismissed it as a “one-off” and did not offer an apology.

Luke Munday, the 26-year-old gamer at the centre of a viral video, was arrested at a home in Oran Park on Sunday night some three hours after the heated exchange was streamed and reported to police by a witness.

The avid gamer is accused of attacking his partner, who was trying to get him to leave the computer for dinner. Police claim the alleged attack was carried out in front of the couple’s two young children.

When 7 News was invited into his grandparents home on Tuesday, Mr Munday wouldn’t get out of bed but said “it’s never happened before and it won’t happen again”.

“It’s a one off and she will corroborate that in court,” he told 7 News from his bed.

His grandfather, John Munday, said he suspects there is more to the story.

“For us, it’s shocking… she must have thrown something at him,” he said.

Luke Munday was placed on strict conditional bail and is to appear in court on Thursday.

The engineer has reportedly been suspended from his job at Telstra, while Fortnite has also banned him from playing the game.
