WATCH: Huge waves force cancellation of Sydney ferries
Sydney ferries from Circular Quay to Manly have been suspended as huge winds and bad weather batter much of the east coast.
Shortly before 11am this morning Sydney Ferries notified the public that commuters would need to rely on alternative public transport between Manly and Circular Quay.
Haig Gilchrist, who works as a deckhand on Manly Ferries posted an extraordinary video to Instagram this morning showing the size of the waves smashing into the ferry.
“Sydney Ferries are not running (between) Manly and Circular Quay due to the large swell,” officials said.
“Delay your trip if you can or allow plenty of extra time.”
Extra buses have been put on to help with the cancellation but commuters were warned to expect delays.
The move comes after passengers shared dramatic videos on social media this morning showing waves crashing up against the boat in the choppy waters between Sydney Heads.

Manly Fast Ferries said it had not yet suspended any services but warned customers to expect delays. The company said it might cancel some services depending on the weather and told commuters to check its website for updates.
