A Sydney man is accused of driving while almost five times over the legal alcohol limit.

Police say the man was pulled over in Marrickville on Monday night for driving a Mitsubishi Pantech truck erratically.

As officers approached the truck, it rolled backwards, crashing into the front of the police car.

The 29-year-old male driver then drove off, along Victoria Road, allegedly running a red light, before being pulled over again.

The Harris Park man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.238 after an alcohol breath analysis.

He was charged with high-range PCA and not complying with the conditions of his licence.

His licence was suspended and he was granted conditional bail to appear in Newtown Local Court on December 1.
