Truck rollover causes traffic chaos on route to Sydney airport

A truck crash is causing serious disruptions to traffic near Sydney's airports after it blocked the entrance to the M5 East tunnel.

Transport authorities say the westbound on-ramp from Marsh St and West Botany St is closed at Arncliffe, but there is no impact to eastbound traffic.

The truck rolled on its side, spilling its contents onto the road. Authorities are working to remove the vehicle as peak hour approaches.

Excavators have now been brought in to remove cardboard and metal which has spilled out, Sunrise reported.

Those travelling to the airport are urged to allow extra time in order to make their flights.

Westbound traffic in the area should use the D5 diversion route via West Botany St, Wickham St, Forest Rd, Stoney Creek Rd and King Georges Rd to join the motorway at Beverly Hills.

Motorists leaving the international or domestic terminals can use Airport Dr, Joyce Dr and General Holmes Dr to access the M5 East.

Emergency workers are at the scene of the crash and motorists using the tunnel are being told to use caution and allow extra travel time.
