Swimming teacher's ridiculous text message conversation with 'selfish' mum

A woman who gives swimming lessons for free to help some parents out has left many internet users in shock after sharing a texting conversation she claims she had with a demanding single mum online.

The full exchange was posted by reddit user u/pretent_its_witty several days ago, with the teacher saying the mother – reportedly from southern India – made demands including that she teach her son exclusively.

The correspondence between the pair appears to begin normally enough with the mother, referred to as “Aunty”, enquiring about the classes and asking if her son can be taught as well.

Shortly after the teacher, who is not certified, agrees to the mother’s request and the conversation takes an unusual turn.

Over the next hour and twenty minutes, the mother sends seven messages, asking if the lessons are free, saying she can’t afford to pay as she is a single mother and pleading for her to reply.

When the teacher does answer again, she explains to the mother that she is in the office and can’t respond straight away.

The mother tells her “that’s rude” and then asks what time she should bring her child to the pool that day.

The teacher says she was not swimming, but normally teaches between 3 and 5.

But the persistent mother asks if the woman can teach her son at 1 instead saying it is warmer, and still hopes the woman will give a lesson today.

Five minutes later the swim teacher had not responded so the mother asked her, “can you reply faster”.

Again the teacher told the mother she did not want to teach today and that she would not make it by 1pm as she was at work. She said she would inform her when she will next teach.

But in an apparent attempt to make the teacher feel guilty, the mother says she has already told her son he can swim today and she asks the teacher to give her a “good reason” to tell him – saying he will cry if she doesn’t.

The teacher gives two reasons, explaining again that she has already cancelled with other people.

But the mother sees that as another opportunity to ask again.

“You can teach him alone. Those brats got free classes for a month. you need to make up for that with my son,” she wrote.

The trainer seems shocked and responds saying she can’t just teach for the woman’s son.

The mother then asks why, now claiming her son has anxiety issues and has to be taught alone.

It is at this time the trainer says she is not certified and tells the mother she should find a different teacher.

“I don’t want to be responsible for the safety of a kid with anxiety in a pool with depth twice his size,” the trainer responds.

The mother then backtracks and says when she is talking about anxiety, she means he does not like other children.

She then demands that the coach teaches him exclusively just for one month and tells her she can start tomorrow.

The mother then adds she does not have goggles and tells the teacher to bring some for the boy.

The final response by the teacher says: “I can’t swim daily. If I go swimming today, it will be at least 2 days before I swim again. And, I am not gonna teach anyone exclusively.”

The mother then sends the woman another ten messages, in which she calls the teacher ‘selfish’ and ‘privileged’.

She then tells the teacher she should take the money from other parents and give it to her, saying she needs it more.

One message also says she will throw her child in the pool at 1 o’clock, and tells the trainer: “If something happens to him you are responsible.”

Many internet users were deeply shocked by the conversation, while others have questioned the authenticity of the conversation, with one person saying, “as if any of this is real!”

Another wrote: “No mother alive would ever suggest she would possibly kill her kid if some woman she didn’t know didn’t want to schedule swimming lessons.”
