'Suspicious': Woman's body found in Melbourne apartment building

A woman's body has been found in an inner city Melbourne apartment building.

Police were called to Surrey Road in South Yarra about 9pm on Saturday and found the body inside an apartment complex.

Her identity is yet to be determined, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"The exact cause of death is yet to be determined at this stage but her death is being treated as suspicious," the spokesperson said in a statement.

"Homicide Squad detectives are on scene and investigators will await the results of a post mortem."

At this stage, the woman's age is also yet to be confirmed.

People who lived in the neighbouring building saw the woman's body and raised the alarm, the Herald Sun reported.

An unnamed witness said it was "a horror scene" and the woman was "upside down" with her "head was on the ground".
