Islington: Suspect in homophobic attack arrested after public appeal
A man suspected of a homophobic assault has been arrested after being spotted by a member of the public.
Detectives appealed for information to trace 28-year-old Alex Ogden after the attack in Islington on Wednesday October 18.
A man, aged in his 50s, was attacked at a property.Ogden was arrested in Southwark on Thursday November 2 after a member of the public recognised him from the appeal.
Officers arrested him on suspicion of GBH and he remains in custody.According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), hate crimes on the basis of sexual orientation are up by 112 per cent in the last five years.
Home Office statistics found homophobic hate crimes rose by 41 per cent in 2022 — the “deadliest” rise in violence against gay people in a decade, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA-Europe).
