An 18-year-old man from Charlottetown has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in the city earlier this month.

Last week, Charlottetown Police Services asked the public for help identifying the driver who had hit a pedestrian in the Sherwood area of the city on Dec. 4 at around 6:30 p.m.

Police said the driver left the scene.

The 54-year-old male pedestrian who was hit was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

On Thursday, police said a suspect had been arrested after a tip from the public.

The 18-year-old is charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. He was released from custody and will appear in provincial court in January to answer to the charge.

Police also seized a vehicle they believe to have been involved in the incident.

When they issued the request for tips, police said the vehicle that hit the man was a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a 2007 to 2012 model Toyota Corolla, that had been travelling westbound on Richard Drive that evening.

Police said it would have had noticeable damage to its front end after striking the pedestrian from behind as he walked along the street the east of the intersection with Doncaster Avenue.
