HOW WE GOT HERE:

* A crew of three NSW removalists, two of whom have since tested positive, did jobs at a Craigieburn home and the Ariele Apartments in Maribyrnong on July 8

* Four residents across two apartments on the third floor caught the virus including a man in his 60s.

* He passed it on to his parents, aged 89 and 90, who live in Craigieburn.

* That man also attended an AFL game between Carlton and Geelong at the MCG on Saturday with a friend.

* The friend, a Barwon Heads man in his 50s, caught the virus and passed it on to two members of his household - another man in his 60s and a nine-year-old child - and to a close contact.

* Two staff members at Bacchus Marsh Grammar contracted the virus the Barwon Heads man.

* Four other cases, three adults and a child, sitting in the same MCG section as the two men also tested positive following suspected "stranger-to-stranger transmission".

* Two men in their 30s who were at Young & Jacksons at the same time as the two football fans have also tested positive, in another case of "stranger-to-stranger transmission".

* Another case is a close contact of a COVID-positive Ariele Apartments resident.

* In a separate cluster, a family of four from the Hume local government area returned from NSW. Three by car on July 4 and one by plane on July 8.

* All four have progressively tested positive since Sunday.

* A man in his 30s contracted the virus after speaking to a member of the family who he knew at Coles Craigieburn.
