Supermodel, 58, reveals insane dating strategy: 'Serious issues'

Paulina Porizkova has shared what it's really like dating as a middle-aged woman.

Former supermodel Paulina Porizkova has revealed her shock dating strategy for finding love at 58 years old. She previously met her late husband Ric Ocasek in 1984 on the set of his music video Drive as a 19-year-old, and he was about 40 years old. The pair embarked on a heated relationship before the Cars rockstar revealed he was already married to his second wife Suzanne Otcasek and had two sons.

After continuing their secret relationship, Ric eventually left Suzanne and married Paulina in 1989. However, cracks started to show and the couple separated in 2018, with Ric passing away just one year later.

In a candid Instagram post on Tuesday, the former Sports Illustrated model opened up about the difficulty of finding a new life partner at a “well-seasoned age”. She admitted that over the past three years, she went on approximately 40 dates before falling in love with Friends writer Jeff Greenstein.

The pair looked loved up as Jeff kissed Paulina on the cheek during an outing. In the caption, she wrote: “I’ve often described the middle-aged dating pool as a muddy puddle. So did it change? Nope. It’s definitely a dirty little puddle. So, how did I get lucky?

“It’s all in the numbers! My single girlfriends told me this a while back when I just started to splash around in it. ‘You just set date after date, don’t invest much in the first date — and go through as many as you have the time for’.

“This is what I did. I’ve been on about forty or so dates in the last three years,” she wrote.

The widow told followers that it’s all about “the numbers”, because the dating pool at her age is filled with ‘divorcées, those permanently not-really-available’ along with a handful of widows and widowers.

She admitted that those with “no relationship issues” at her age are most likely in a happy marriage or long-term relationships, with the dating pool shrinking significantly.

“What’s on the market are mostly the wares that are being returned, or return of their own volition, because they are convinced there are superior takers who just haven’t showed up yet. So, this dating pool is in fact a puddle of 70 per cent of people who have serious commitment issues.”

The author added that while she doesn’t have “commitment issues”, she realised she had her own problems to work through, including an attraction to partners who have “commitment issues”.

“Three years of intense self-work and kissing a lot of lovely frogs. And that’s how I found my prince,” she declared.

Her fans showed their support, with many agreeing with Paulina’s observations.

“This is probably the most accurate account of the realities of middle-aged dating I’ve heard. I have jokingly said in reference to finding my person that ‘I feel like I won the lottery, but just like the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play!’. It took a lot of years, but now? I’m so glad it did,” one person wrote.

“It took me almost 11 years after divorce to meet the right one. Been together now almost 30 years,” another added.

“This is exactly what worked for me. Didn’t even want it till I got it,” a third chimed in.
