Michael Pell is the Executive Producer of Sunrise on Seven.
Michael began his career as a producer at Sky News. He honed his skills while studying a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, majoring in journalism, from the University of Technology, Sydney. As the youngest 24-hour news producer in Australia, Michael was in charge of rolling coverage of some of the world’s biggest events.
After three years at Sky, Michael hit the road, working as a reporter for Prime Television, based in Tamworth.
At just 22 years old, Michael returned to his native Sydney and took up a position as a news producer with the Seven Network. He produced bulletins for Sunrise, Morning News and the flagship 6pm News.
Not long after, Michael accepted a role as a producer on the Sunrise program, a position that took him to the far corners of the globe. Before long, he was Supervising Producer of the newly-created Weekend Sunrise show. Under his guidance, the program quickly shot to the number one position on Sunday mornings. He was also asked to fill a weekly on-air position as an entertainment reporter on The Morning Show, a role he held for two years.
In 2009, after four years with Seven and aged 26, Michael was promoted to Executive Producer of Weekend Sunrise and The Morning Show.
In 2010 Michael was appointed Executive Producer of Sunrise. Since then, the show has not only evolved, it has cemented its position as Australia’s number one breakfast program. Under his leadership, Sunrise has renewed its commitment to breaking news, mounting special extended coverage of stories such as the Queensland floods, the NSW bushfires, the Essendon scandal, the Papal inauguration and royal births and marriages. Michael has also taken the show on the road, both in Australia and overseas. The program has become the home of live music, with the world’s highest selling artists choosing Sunrise to stage major TV events, including Katy Perry, One Direction, Justin Bieber and Coldplay. In 2013 Sunrise has extended its lead.
Michael has also been recognised as one of Encore magazine’s Most Powerful Men In Media and has made Men’s Style’s Men of Influence list.
