New tax planned for parcels being shipped to Australia

Aussie shoppers may soon have to pay a $5 tax on every parcel posted from overseas under a federal government plan to cover skyrocketing security screening costs.

It would be applied to small packages containing items such as clothing and makeup that are valued under $1,000.

Around 38,000,000 parcels were imported into the country last year, up more than 20% on the year before.
