Sunrise announces new presenter for 2023 following Today shakeup

Following the news that Today, A Current Affair and The Project have all enlisted new hosts for 2023, Sunrise has made a very exciting announcement of its own.

The Channel Seven breakfast show revealed over the weekend that Queensland sports reporter Katie Brown, who recently filled in for Sam Mac while he was on paternity leave, will be joining the program in a brand new role next year.

The 7NEWS journalist has signed a two-year deal to become Sunrise’s new roving reporter, a role created specifically for her to travel across Australia reporting from the biggest entertainment, sporting and community events.

Katie, who officially joins the show in January, will also be on hand to present the weather or sport when Sam or Mark Beretta are away.

“I guess this is the stuff you dream of, except I didn’t dream of it as a kid,” the 31-year-old told Courier Mail. “I actually can’t believe I’m in this position but at the same time, I do know that I’m good enough and I believe I’ll do a good job.

“I felt in my element. I get so much adrenaline out of those early mornings … and whether someone is laughing at me or with me, it made me feel good to hear that people were smiling in the morning. The world can be a pretty serious place.”

Seven’s director of morning television Sarah Stinson added: “Katie is an absolute joy and we’re so excited to have her join the Sunrise family. She brings spontaneity, a fantastic sense of humour and is up for everything.”

The post was quickly flooded with congratulatory comments, including messages of support from her new Sunrise colleagues.
