Sunday shows preview: Trump woos Senate GOP with Cabinet picks; Democrats brace for full minority

President-elect Trump’s Cabinet and senior staff for his upcoming administration are coming into focus as Democrats prepare for a full minority in both chambers of Congress and The White House.

This week’s Sunday talk shows are likely to touch on these topics.

Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) is set to appear on “Fox News Sunday.” The retired Army Green Beret made headlines earlier this month after Trump selected him to serve as his next national security advisor.

Trump called the Florida congressman in a post on social media an “expert on the threats posed by China, Russia, Iran and global terrorism” and a “champion of my America First Foreign Policy agenda and will be a tremendous champion of our pursuit of peace through strength.”

Waltz will likely offer a hawkish view on China and deep support to Israel. The retired colonel has been tougher on Russia than Trump, however, as the congressman was quick to condemn the invasion and support arming Ukraine to defend itself after Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” will host Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who’s been a main topic of conversation as she’s set to chair a new subcommittee within the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, called the Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee.

The subcommittee will work in conjunction with the White House commission with the same acronym that is set to be run by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

CBS’s “Face the Nation” will host Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), who made history as the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. Her election comes during a pivotal moment for transgender rights in the U.S. as House and Senate Republicans filed dozens of bills targeting trans rights and added anti-LGBTQ measures to must-pass federal spending bills.

McBride recently made headlines for saying she will comply with a policy announced Wednesday by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) barring transgender people from single-sex facilities that match their gender identity in the Capitol and House office buildings.

“I’m not here to fight about bathrooms. I’m here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down the costs facing families. Like all members, I will follow the rules outlined by Speaker Johnson, even if I disagree with them,” McBride said Wednesday in a statement posted to the social platform X.

“Fox News Sunday” will have Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) on the show. Barrasso became the No. 2 Senate leader, winning an election to become majority whip last week as the GOP secured majority control of the upper chamber following Election Day.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) is set to appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Duckworth made headlines last week condemning President-elect Trump’s nomination of Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Defense secretary, after he called for women to not serve in combat roles.

Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran and Purple Heart recipient, was among some of the first women to fly combat missions as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot.
