Sunday shows preview: Harris, Trump enter final stretch; US recovers from Hurricanes Helene, Milton

Vice President Harris and former President Trump are in the final stretch of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, and both are looking to galvanize their supporters while campaigning in battleground states. The polling numbers are showing a tight White House contest with just 23 days left before Election Day.

The country is also recovering from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, storms that have devastated communities in the southeast. Both topics are likely going to be discussed in this week’s Sunday shows.

Trump is set to appear on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” The GOP nominee has been touring swing states, including Michigan where he debuted a new proposal to help the auto industry, but also drew rebukes for taking a swipe at the Motor City while speaking at the Detroit Economic Club. The ex-president was also in the headlines after excerpts of veteran reporter Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book “War” were published in news outlets, revealing that Trump was in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin after leaving the White House and that he reportedly sent him COVID-19 tests.

Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) will appear on two Sunday shows, ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday.” The Ohio Republican refused five times to say that Trump lost the 2020 election during his interview with The New York Times. Vance, who has courted voters in Arizona and Pennsylvania this week, will likely discuss the current state of the presidential race and the federal government’s handling in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator, Deanne Criswell, will also be on two Sunday shows this weekend, ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday.” There, she will likely discuss her agency’s work in assisting communities impacted by both hurricanes and the agency’s budget. Throughout this week, Criswell and her agency have been battling misinformation regarding Hurricane Helene and the federal government’s response to it, although the FEMA head said this week the volume of misinformation has started to go down.
