Exclusive: Reeva's parents speak about Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius was poised to be released from prison less than a year into his five-year sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp when the decision was suddenly overturned.

Just two days before the scheduled release Justice Minister Michael Masutha announced the decision to allow the Olympian to serve out the remainder of his five-year sentence under house arrest was suspended pending a parole board review.

The eleventh-hour decision has been a relief for Reeva's parents Barry and June Steenkamp who say they have had no justice for their daughter, in an Australia exclusive with Seven's Sunday Night to air August 23.

They reveal what they believe truly happened to the model and aspiring actress on Valentine's Day 2013.

"What actually came out in court is not the truth ... we know what we heard there is not right," Barry Steenkamp tells Sunday Night in the emotional interview.

Reeva was shot by Pistorius in his home in Pretoria through the door of the toilet.

He claimed he thought it was an intruder.

Reeva's mother said she was wary of the blade-runner and had warned Pistorius against harming her daughter.

She also says she believes Reeva was preparing to leave him.

"[I said] if you hurt my baby I will have you killed," She tells reporter Steve Pennells.

The 28-year-old athlete was convicted in October of culpable homicide - a charge equivalent to manslaughter - but prosecutors have appealed, seeking a murder conviction instead.

Having served a sixth of his five-year sentence on August 21 would make him eligible for early release under South African law but the justice minister said the early release decision was made prematurely.

"[The parole board] misinterpreted the law and been in haste in taking a decision prematurely," he said in a statement.
