Death row confessions

Every evening they lay on their beds unable to sleep – wondering if this will be the night they hear the footsteps coming towards their cell. Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are on death row, their executions coming anytime now.

They are the convicted ringleaders of the Bali Nine heroin smuggling gang, and they’ve been sentenced to death by firing squad. In accordance with Indonesian law, they won’t be given any warning when their time is up. They will simply be taken to an isolated location, a target placed over their hearts, and ten soldiers will form the firing squad. Only one live bullet will be used.

In this extraordinary report, Mike Willesee goes inside Bali’s notorious Kerokaban prison and spends four days on death row with Australia’s most infamous prisoners.

He meets six of the Bali Nine and conducts some of the most compelling interviews you will ever see. Any bravado and swagger seen at their trial is long gone, replaced by a brutal acceptance of their fate.

What will surprise many of those who have no sympathy for drug smugglers is that none of the Bali Nine is asking for pity. Some are coping better than others, but they have all taken responsibility for what they did. Hear their chilling death row confessions on Sunday Night.
