One Direction: Where it all started

One Direction are the biggest and fastest-selling music group in the world today.

Only a year after the release of their massive debut album, their readying its follow-up: Take Me Home will be released in Australia on November 9. It features the smash hit single Live While We’re Young, which is out now.

The boy band who recently brought Sydney to a standstill sit down with Sunday Night reporter PJ Madam to discuss all the hot topics: fame, bullying, racism, hate mail and hysteria.

It’s incredible to think that only two years ago the five members of One Direction – Harry, Louis, Zayn, Niall and Liam – were just five regular British lads. Each had auditioned solo for the UK version of talent show The X Factor, when judge and record company svengali Simon Cowell struck on a winning idea: combining the five talents into one group, thereby ushering in the revival of the boy band.

Since then, the hardworking fivesome have enjoyed number one singles, sell out tours and even became the first UK group in history to debut atop the US charts with their debut album. But fame comes at a price: the band have to tread a delicate line appeasing their largely teenage female fanbase, who can be vicious to any women who get close to the boys (watch out PJ!).

In this whirlwind meeting, One Direction tell of their love of Australia – and especially Aussie girls. They describe their rise from humble beginnings, as the sons of unassuming working class families, to being superstar millionaires.

You can preorder One Direction’s second album , Take Me Home, on iTunes now.
