Miley Cyrus: "Instagram hurts your brain"

Miley Cyrus has said marijuana use is less harmful than social media, in an exclusive interview with Sunday Night.

The singer said "reading comments on Facebook" was worse for your health than smoking marijuana, when asked about her open use of the drug.

While on the topic, reporter Chris Bath made a note of Miley's latest tattoo, which reads 'love your brain'.

"You know what hurts your brain? Googling yourself. You know what hurts your brain? Instagram. You know what hurts your brain? Reading comments on Facebook. You know what hurts your brain? Reading US Weekly."

"I put some picture of me smoking weed … on my Instagram because I was brought up in the way that we never thought marijuana was bad."

The 21-year-old 'Wrecking Ball' singer also compared herself to Elvis as a music sex-symbol and says female entertainers still battle a double standard.

"He was like sex. He was a symbol of sex but no one would have ever called Elvis a shit because he wasn't a girl. It's that double standard and I think I'm doing something for the double standard," Cyrus said in the exclusive interview with Sunday Night.

"Elvis, he wasn't wearing the outfits I was wearing but he was coming out and he was doing like the OG twerking. Like, no one wants to admit that he was twerking, he was."

She said she hoped her children would see a time when "being female wasn’t even a thing".

Cyrus underwent an image overhaul in 2012 that scandalized many of her Hannah Montana fans and launched a tour that has made headlines.

But the singer said she is not trying to be a role model for younger women, insisting she does everything for her own happiness.

"I don’t put myself up on a pedestal and say 'look at me I'm an example'. The only thing I'm an example of is freedom, especially in this time where the energy of the world is shifting from male energy to female energy."

" I just want to make the music that I love. I’ve already served my time of doing what people want me to do and doing what a company wants me to do now forget it’s about what I want to do to be happy."

Cyrus said people around her are constantly amazed at how 'centered' she is.

"I tell people, you know, going to the club doesn’t make me a bad person, going to church doesn’t make you a good one."

"Everything that I do is kind of for me and for my own happiness and I think that’s why I’m like so happy."

Cyrus took reporter backstage of her Bangerz tour show where she remains remarkably minder-free and does pre-show warm-ups with her backup dancers.
