He's the Boss

He's the Boss - full story

09 December, 2012

Reporter: Molly Meldrum
Producer: Dale Paget

Molly Meldrum travels to Bruce Springsteen’s 200-hectare New Jersey farm for this relaxed chat, as the two old mates playfully trade barbs.

To Molly, Bruce is ‘Old MacDonald’, sat on his farm surrounded by pet goats when he could be living the rock star lifestyle. And Bruce won’t let Molly forget the mammoth interview he’d given him years earlier – “This man right here once dragged me through the longest four hours of my life! Whenever I think of you I think of pain…”

Joking aside, Springsteen takes time to reflect on his incredible four-decade career as ‘The Boss’, talking about his current position as rock’s elder statesman. He even delivers some timely advice to today’s aspiring rock stars:

“It’s good to learn to play live. One suggestion to young musicians is to develop a flame throwing live show because that’s an important connection. There isn’t a night you go out on a stage of any size and you don’t realise that I am a guy who plays a guitar for a living. I am a lucky guy,” he says.
