Stunned tourists watch as boatload of migrants land on busy beach

Stunned tourists watched as a boat load of migrants landed on a popular Spanish beach and quickly scrambled up nearby cliffs towards a luxury resort area.

A semi-inflatable boat pulled up at the shore of a busy beach at Cadiz on Spain’s southern coast at about 3.30pm on Sunday.

Footage shows the boat landing on the shore of Barrosa beach, as the migrants jump out and climb up a rock face towards an area of luxurious hotels and restaurants.

Some of the group were assisted by hotel and restaurant staff, according to local outlet El Pais.

A spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard said that the boat contained nearly 50 Moroccan nationals, including 19 minors, The Metro UK reported on Monday.

The Spanish Civil Guard said that 25 had been detained, comprising 19 minors and 6 adults, in holding centres, according to The Sun.

“None of those intercepted have been arrested as they haven’t committed a crime,” said a Civil Guard spokesman.

“They will be dealt with differently depending on whether they are adults or minors.

“The minors will be taken to youth centres and the adults to a secure migrant holding centre called a CIE. The return of the adults to their country of origin will be fairly quick.”

The country has received just under 230 migrants per day since May 31, with 19,844 refugee or migrant arrivals. Currently, Spain receives more than twice the amount of migrants as Greece and more than four times that of Italy.

Atleast 1,549 people have died crossing from Mediterranean sea in 2018. This year, 67,122 migrants and refugees have entered Europe by sea in 2018, with 27,994 to Spain.

Boat of migrants runs ashore in the Daintree Rainforest

The news comes after up to 30 suspected asylum seekers were believed to be hiding in Queensland’s crocodile infested Daintree rainforest after they disembarked their boat on Sunday morning.

Refugee advocates confirmed that 15 people, who are believed to be from Vietnam have been detained and transferred to Christmas Island after a two-day search of mangroves and rainforest by SES volunteers, Queensland Police and Australian Federal Police.
