Student receives full marks for cheeky 19-word essay

A university student student has scored top marks for handing in an essay that contained just one sentence.

Film student Allison Garrett decided to take the “opportunity” when her professor assigned the class to write a movie review and she used one of the most memorable lines from the movie Fight Club to score a perfect grade.

Using only 19 words to review the cult movie, Ms Garrett managed to convince her professor that she had aced the assignment.

The essay read “The first rule of fight club: you do not talk about fight club”.

With a footnote: ‘That’s it. That’s the essay’

Since posting the essay and her professor’s response on Twitter, the post has been shared over 44,000 times.

While the professor admitted to initially struggling with how to grade the short film review, he eventually decided the review was “relevant” and gave her ‘100 out of 100’.

Most people agree and have applauded the student for her “time management”.

Another admitted to trying a similar tactic and failing “I had to write an essay on "What Christian spirituality means to you" and I said I'm an atheist so it means nothing and handed it in. Got an F”.

One eagle-eyed commenter pointed out that there was a vital step forgotten in the essay “My professor would’ve said I didn’t cite my source”.

Ms Garrett said that she had thought that forgetting to credit Brad Pitt for the infamous quote may have been her downfall “This crossed my mind right after I submitted it, and immediately started regretting my decision”.

Although Ms Garrett passed her assignment with the cheeky tactic, her professor did warn her that she may not be so lucky with another teacher.

“They may not have my sense of humour”.
