'Stuck in a warped reality': Bodybuilder's confession before being jailed for drug running

A Bondi bodybuilder has been jailed for two years after becoming a drug runner.

George Gerges, 33, was arrested in 2015 for his role in a dial-a-dealer scheme which saw him supplying cocaine in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Gerges thought he was untouchable. He had beachside parties, a model girlfriend and a $1000-a-day cocaine habit. He was $25,000 in debt, which he tried to pay off by becoming a courier for a drug ring.

The 33-year-old had more than 1000 names on his client list and delivered more than half a kilogram of cocaine over five months before his arrest in 2015.

He told 7 News the outcome of his trial was was “two-and-a-half years in the making” and he is now ready to move on from his past.

“Look, I was stuck in a warped reality to be honest,” he said.

“It was a warped reality and I was heavily addicted to drugs at the time.”

Judge Paul Conlon found that Gerges’s downfall was “the result of his voluntary consumption of drugs,” but found his backstory compelling.

Prior to his arrest, Gerges performed extensive charity work and fed the homeless – a prime example of how a life can unravel all because of drugs.

Judge Conlon added he was satisfied Gerges was “genuinely remorseful and he’s unlikely to re-offend”.
