Struggling Perth family take home Lotto win

A Perth family doing it tough and a public servant from regional WA have had their lives transformed by Lotto wins this week.

The winner from Northam, northeast of Perth, has claimed a $2 million prize, while a Canning Vale family has raked in more than $670,000.

The Northam winner told The West Australian they would buy a new car with their winnings but wouldn’t change too much about their country lifestyle.

“It just changes the balance between what I need and what I want,” the  winner said.

“I recently thought about buying a car and was going to get a second-hand one, but now I can skip that hassle and get a new one. Maybe get a caravan too!”

The winner said they would also do some renovations on their property and donate some money to charity.

“I’ve got a horse, chooks and a dog. The dog might get a new collar but they don’t seem to care about the prize too much, they just want to be fed,” the winner said.

The lucky winner had lost their ticket but managed to have the winning numbers verified by Lotterywest, which had registered the details, The West Australian reports.

For a struggling Canning Vale family – one of six winners to share Saturday night’s jackpot – the money couldn’t have come at a better time.

The husband told The West Australian he’d had a “strong feeling” about some upcoming good luck, although his wife wasn’t so sure.

But $672,883 later, it’s safe to say that hubby’s intuition was on the money.
