Strong winds over the Irish Sea have led to the cancellation of evening and overnight ferry services between Lancashire and the Isle of Man.

The Manxman's crossing to Heysham at 19:45 BST along with its 02:15 Douglas-bound return have both been scrapped.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company confirmed the sailings had been suspended due to the outlook.

The ferry firm also said two planned daytime sailings for New Year's Eve were also in doubt as winds of up to 55mph (88km/h) were expected to hit the island.

A yellow weather warning has also been put in place from 09:30 until 13:30 on Tuesday for coastal overtopping amid gale force winds.
