Strictly Come Dancing star Eddie Kadi has landed a big presenting role, with the star set to front a comedy gala for BBC Radio 1Xtra.
According to the BBC, Eddie Kadi & Friends will be a “night full of laughter and a celebration of established names and new voices on the black comedy circuit.”
The evening, which will take place at Hackney Empire on March 13, sees Kadi curate a lineup including Babátúndé Aléshé, Gbemi Oladipo, Kane Brown, Kyrah Gray, Michael Odewale, Ola Labib, Slim and Thanyia Moore, with Joelah Noble hosting the red carpet.
“Hackney Empire is the home of Black Comedy and I’m so proud to be hosting the BBC 1Xtra Comedy Gala, showcasing the superstars of our thriving scene alongside the next generation of new wave stars,” said Kadi of the event.
“Hosting the 1Xtra Comedy Gala is an immense honour, and with BBC 1Xtra’s legendary presenter and comedian Eddie Kadi at the helm, we’re ready to celebrate the UK’s most brilliant comic talent,” added Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC 1Xtra.
“We’re proud to shine a spotlight on rising stars on the scene, and cannot wait to give our audiences an unforgettable night of laughter at the iconic Hackney Empire.”
Tickets are currently available here, with prices starting at £14; the show will also be available to stream on both BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds from early April.
Kadi took part in the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside Karen Hauer, with the pair eventually being eliminated in week five. The star had spoken about his heritage before setting foot on the dancefloor, saying his Congolese roots gave him an advantage.
Eddie Kadi & Friends will take place at Hackney Empire on March 13, before streaming on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds in April. Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
