Wynne Evans has admitted he was “cool” about landing in the Strictly dance-off because he had been “kind of expecting it”.

The opera singer and his professional dance partner Katya Jones ended up in the dance-off at the weekend after their American Smooth to Grace Kelly by Mika. Evans went up against Shayne Ward but the judges chose to save him, meaning he went through to Blackpool Week while Ward headed home.

Speaking on It Takes Two, Evans revealed he was OK at being in the bottom two after all the votes were in, because he had known it was coming at some point.

Evans and Jones were on the Strictly spin-off show on Thursday, 14 November and host Janette Manrara asked how the singer had felt.

"Do you know what?" he replied. "I don't want to make light of being in the dance-off because nobody really wants to be in the dance-off. But as I said on the night, I was expecting to go on week one, pretty much. And so, since the first elimination, we have just been going, 'Do you know what? This could be our last dance on Strictly, so let's just get out there and have fun.'

"And so you are kind of expecting it at some point during the programme, so it was just one of those things, and we were like, really cool about it, weren’t we?"

Jones agreed: "You were so calm and collected about it, and the competition is strong, you know, and like I said, in my opinion, and the judges noticed the footwork, the frame, the skill that you picked up."

Evans also told how he relies on other things to dazzle in his routines, as he doesn’t think he’s the most skilled celeb in the competition.

"I am never going to be the best dancer on that dancefloor,” he said. “So I have to have something else and I think entertaining and being fun and full of life is the way forward!"

However, Jones insisted that in her opinion Evans was "the best". And she said of last week’s routine: "To me it was one of your best dances."
