Steph McGovern had a ring cut off her finger by fire station workers after an accident caused her finger to swell.

The TV presenter quipped via Twitter to her 400,000 followers on Friday that she'd had an "eventful morning" after her emergency trip to Harrogate Fire Station in North Yorkshire.

McGovern praised the "brilliant" fire station staff who helped remove the ring after she trapped her finger in a door at her home.

Responding to a question from a fan, she added: "The door closed on my whole hand and squashed the ring. Then that’s what caused the swelling. The ring was suddenly too tight."

A source told The Sun that McGovern was "a bit embarrassed" when she phoned up the fire service, but they asked her to visit the station, where they had the tools to solve her problem.

The source added: "Everyone was so lovely. It made a change from getting cats out of trees and, well, fighting fires."

The 39-year-old journalist said the situation was extra stressful because she had to take her daughter for her first ever day at nursery.
