Stella McCartney pays tribute to her father with a vivid new unisex clothing capsule Stella McCartney x The Beatles: Get Back.

Taking its lead from Peter Jackson’s Disney+ documentary, which follows the band through 1969, the designer mixes monochrome and acid bright prints to make comfortable clothes imbued with some Sixties swing and swagger.

“The Beatles were the faces of a cultural movement for positive change that continues to shape the lives of millions around the world,” McCartney said. “I hope this capsule celebrates and communicates these ageless messages to a new generation.”

This line, part of the spring ‘22 collection and available to buy now, spans slouchy loungewear, knit tracksuits and t-shirts, all injected with youthful fun. It’s summerof love style, with psychedelic prints by The Fool — the Dutch hippie design group from the late Sixties, best known for their collaborations with The Beatles.

Their charming purple, orange, and green spacey scenes are printed on sweatshirts, contrasting with the black and white photograph of the band’s Let It Be album cover on the back. Meanwhile, socks and bucket hats, emblazoned with logo collage prints, act as entry-level products to entice buyers.

At the top of the range you’ll find a regenerated nylon bomber inspired by one of Paul McCartney’s own: off-white with silver sleeves and cut-out pictures of the band behind. There are thick knit jumpers with LSD-laced visuals of lilac mountains and planets, and a black and white panelled knit coat for those less garish.

The line was launched at the fabled Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles with an all-out, A-list party last week. The designer welcomed old friends Kate Hudson, Laura Dern and Orlando Bloom, while a younger crowd, headed up by actress Storm Reid, took the new designs for a spin.

“Get Back is about so much more than just a song or a concert,” McCartney says of the docuseries that has inspired her. “It is the timeless story of lifelong friends coming together to create something incredible with laughter and utter fearlessness whilst standing at the forefront of change.”It’s no small order to squeeze into one capsule but this has all the makings of a smash hit.

Prices range £70 - £1,795, available at stellamccartney.com
